This magazine is about a fantasy kingdom of bees, all dawning medieval themed weapons and armor. The bees are loyal to their queen, the mightiest of their warriors. All of the articles describe their society, war tactics, and specially made bee armor. The layout of this magazine emulates an educational booklet with instructional pictures surrounding by blocks of informative text. I believe this magazine will be most interesting to fellow artists, writers and consumers with a whimsical mind. I feel that anyone who likes the fantasy genre will enjoy this piece.
Throughout this 28 page zine you will see art, stories, and assets all created by me over the course of 3 months. This project was very fun to make allowing me to combine multiple mediums and interests to create a cohesive fantasy world. Each of the bees discused in this zine have their own jobs, lives, and styles, each complementing the rest of the hive. As you look through this piece I encourage you to let your mind wander and get lost in the imaginary world of the Drone Knights.
Full Zine Layout

This is the zine in it's entirety. Each asset was created by me and reformed over the process of the project. The large title page spreads were some of my favorite things to make. I was able to get creative with my imagery and typography. The large type was an Adobe typography that I modified for my own purposes.
Artwork

I studied a lot of insect anatomy to create these pieces. Along with medieval armor models. The main challenge of these images was figuring out how to meld these two subjects. But over all creating these illustrations was one of my favorite parts of the process.
Asset Creation

These honey comb images were a combination of sourced images, scanned assets, and digital patterns that I created. I was very particular about the paper rip effect on my zine. I went and sourced my own materials and spent a few sessions in the lab scanning them and getting them just right.
